He was a man of ability, strength and sincerity.

Those were some of the words heard yesterday as many people sang the praises of former Member of Parliament (MP), event promoter and community activist Mark Williams, who died on December 27.

During a packed funeral service at St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, St Michael, Williams’ best friend and lead singer of the Draytons Two, Desmond Weekes, was one of numerous individuals who paid homage and spoke about Williams’ helpfulness and tenacity.

“I could call Mark anytime for advice. Being in the entertainment field and promoting my shows, he would give me the advice I wanted and not one that would throw me off,” Weekes said.

Williams who died at 83, was also a familiar name in politics.

He was one of the founders of the People’s Pressure Group formed by Eric Sealy. Williams was also a member of the Democratic Labour Party and later the Barbados Labour Party. (TSG)
