The Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) is not pushing for a remedy relocation of St Bartholomew’s Primary School from Parish Land, Christ Church, in spite of concerns about environmental conditions affecting both staff and students.

President Rudy Lovell told the Weekend Nation they were willing to give Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) Inc. enough time to seek solutions to the smoke emissions from the incinerator, which were impacting the school.

Staff have complained of respiratory ailments caused by toxins released by the smoking incinerator, which is scheduled to operate seven days a week.

Lovell, who visited the school yesterday, said both the teaching and ancillary staff met with Deputy Chief Education Officer Joy Adamson and an education officer. They were brought up to date on Saturday’s meeting with GAIA on how to best address the long-running issue.
