CARIFTA hopefuls off to SVG

The Athletic Association of Barbados has taken 30 of their “CARIFTA hopefuls” to the St Vincent and the Grenadines junior nationals which come off this weekend in Kingstown.

With the unavailability of a National Stadium and the track at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex still being upgraded, the AAB staged their Louis Lynch and Junior Championships at the less than ideal conditions on grass at St George Secondary School.

Those substandard conditions were horribly exposed when rain scuttled last weekend’s 200 metres finals.

Although some of the athletes have shown tremendous resilience clocking qualifying times for the 51st Games to be held in Grenada March 30 to April 1, none of them have been able to experience  the give back from a synthetic surf for almost a year. The group left the island in three batches yesterday and will return on Sunday night.
