Former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle lit up the iconic Empire State Building in New York recently as he flipped the switch to illuminate the skyscraper in blue and pink.
Those two colours represent the official tournament colours of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Gayle’s trip to the building was part of the T20 World Cup trophy global tour stop. The Barbados leg will be in two weeks time.
The trophy, designed and manufactured by Links of London and made out of silver and rhodium, also touched down on the International Space Station in Houston, Texas, with members of the United States cricket team, which included Bajan Aaron Jones, in attendance.
The 2024 T20 World Cup will be the largest in the tournament’s history, with 20 international teams playing 55 matches across nine locations.
Six countries in the West Indies will host matches in the ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be played from June 1 to 29, with Barbados hosting the finals. (NS)
