It has been a challenge for the Barbados Boy Scouts Association to find suitable scout leaders.
However, Chief Commissioner Trevor Jones said they would be increasing their efforts to find volunteers to help shape the nation’s boys and young men.
“We get requests every week from people who want to open scout groups but we don’t have the leaders. If you don’t have leaders, you cannot start new groups.
“Things in Barbados have changed and we have to be more serious about the number of boys per adult leader when it comes to supervision. Years ago, you could have had one leader dealing with 30 and 35 boys, but that is not something you can do today. Standards have changed and you can only [supervise] a limited number of boys,” Jones said.
He made those comments yesterday during an open day for their Learning Entrepreneurship and Environmental Protection (LEEP) programme at Hazelwood, Collymore Rock, St Michael. (TSG)
