New Chief Executive Officer of The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI) Andrea Franklin began her term of office this morning promising to work collaboratively with all interests to keep Barbados’ tourism on a growth trajectory.
Speaking this morning at a news conference attended by Minister of Tourism and International Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill and chairman of the BTMI Shelly Williams, Franklin projected hers would be “an interesting and a long journey.”
She gave the assurance that “as we grow together we will build on the foundation that has been set by those who have been with us in the past. We will learn from their mistakes and we will grow together.”
Franklin indicated collaboration with other stakeholders in the industry would be at the top of her agenda, as under her leadership, the BTMI works to further develop tourism for the betterment of Barbados.
Former BTMI director for the United Kingdom, Cheryl Carter also assumed duties in the new position of Chief Operations Officer. Carter says she will be working very closely with the overseas markets and emerging markets “so that we can build out not just what we are traditionally used to, but looking at how we can tap into other areas of the world.”
In welcoming the two BTMI executives, the Minister of Tourism said Barbados now has “two very proud and outstanding females leading the BTMI”.
