The Parliament Building in Bridgetown is all aglow in royal blue light in celebration of Autism Awareness Month.
It will continue until April 9 in commemoration of Autism Awareness Month.
Members from the Autism Association of Barbados (AAB) gathered in Parliament Yard on Tuesday, World Autism Day, some with their children/wards, for the ceremony.
Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey, Member of Parliament for St James North Edmund Hinkson, Senator Andwele Boyce and president of the Barbados Council for the Disabled KerryAnn Ifill were among those in attendance.
Hinkson, chair of the Commission for Improving the Lives of Persons with Disabilities, pledged Government’s continued support for people with autism, and all with disabilities.
“It was a wise decision to hold this ceremony on the steps of Parliament in Parliament Yard because this is where we make the law. This is where the legal authority for changes, not only on autism but on disability rights, has to take place and is taking place”. (JRN)
