The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has expanded its Flash Flood Warning to include the central part of the island, effective immediately until 6:00 PM today, Saturday, April 20th, 2024.

Heavy rains that caused flooding in northern districts earlier today have now shifted south. Rainfall accumulations of 40 to 75 millimeters are expected, raising concerns for:

  • Runoff from hills
  • Soil erosion on exposed land
  • Water pooling on roads and fields
  • Rising water levels in ponds and other bodies of water
  • Debris carried by fast-moving floodwaters
  • Flooding near hillsides and coastal roads
  • Traffic delays and potential road closures

Residents in both northern and central districts are urged to take precautions:

  • Follow instructions from the Department of Emergency Management (DEM).
  • Monitor updates from the BMS, DEM, and Government Information Service (GIS) for the latest information.
  • Stay informed through local media reports.

This Flash Flood Warning was updated at 3:40 PM on Saturday, April 20th, and may be terminated earlier if conditions improve. (BMS)
