Port of Spain – A $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone who finds the shark that attacked, mauled, and critically injured a British tourist on Friday.
The bountry will be paid by the Tobago House of Assembly.
The Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation said the attack occurred at Turtle Beach this morning.
The victim, a 64-year-old British national, was 10 metres offshore when the attack occurred and received injuries to his left arm, left leg and stomach. The emergency services were immediately contacted, and subsequent to the rescue of the visitor from the water, he was promptly transported to the Scarborough General Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery and, at the time of this release, is in stable condition.
The THA’s emergency agencies swiftly activated their response protocols, taking every pre-caution to safeguard the well-being of the public, including tourists, and enforcing closure of Turtle Beach until further notice. The Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) has also advised that beaches along the westerly end of the island be closed until further notice. These include:
– Grafton Beach -Grange Bay
– Mt. Irvine – Store Bay
– Rocky Point – Swallows
– Buccoo Beach – No Man’s Land
– Pigeon Point
