The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) is advising the public of potential rough seas impacting the west coast of the island. This is due to an area of low pressure located in the central north Atlantic. However, it’s important to note that there are currently no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados.
Choppy sea conditions are expected to begin as early as Tuesday, April 30th, primarily affecting the west coast from Six Mens St. Peter southward to Brighton’s beach. These conditions are predicted to last through Thursday, May 2nd, with calmer seas expected afterwards.
Beachgoers are advised to use beaches with lifeguards present during this time. Mariners and all those who use the water are also encouraged to closely monitor updates from the BMS, Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and the Geographic Information System (GIS) websites. Social media pages and local media broadcasts should also be followed for the latest information.
Additionally, the public is advised to follow any advisories or warnings issued by the National Conservation Commission.
Northerly swells ranging from 1.0 meter to 1.5 meters are expected to impact the west coast of Barbados during this period. (BMS)
