UB40 rolls back years

Ali Campbell’s still got it.

The legendary lead singer of reggae band UB40 has been on stage for more than 45 years, and Sunday night he showed he hasn’t lost a step since he and his four unemployed friends from Birmingham, England decided to make the genre their career path.

UB40 was not the headline act at the Reggae On The Gardens show, the marquee event of the Barbados Reggae Weekend, at the National Botanical Gardens, but they certainly brought out the best for Barbadians.

From the time Campbell strapped on his red guitar at 11:58 p.m. he held patrons in a musical spell during a 58-minute performance that produced most of the British band’s most popular tunes.
