FIRE CREWS RUSHED to Durants, St James, Wednesday evening, where fire broke out at the private beach front villa Anchorage.

Up to press time, there was no official word from the fire department or the police but eyewitness Delbert Forde told the DAILY NATION he noticed the blaze and called the Fire Department.

“Around 4.57 p.m. today, the villa just behind me, Anchorage, caught a fire. My son was with me and he noticed the smoke burning. So he told me, ‘daddy that place is burning down there’. So we come to check and the whole back of the villa was on fire. So I called for attendants from Arch Hall Station and Worthing Station, the two closest I could get in my head,” he reported.

Forde said by the time fire officers arrived on the scene, “the whole back of the villa was in flames and the roof was sinking in. He added that a loud explosion was also heard”.

Forde said he tried to assist so fire officers could reach the property, adding that he also located the hydrant so they could have access to more water.

Fire officers were on the scene for several hours. (MB)
