C.O Williams Rangers are the repeat queens of premier netball after scoring a 45-40 win over contenders St. Barnabas to end their league season with an unassailable 28 points on Wednesday night at the Netball Stadium.

It was the fifth successive win for Rangers following a season opening drawn game against knockout champions, Guardian Group Pride of Villa and gave them the title as St. Barnabas and former queens UWI Blackbirds can only reach 26 points having lost one game each to Rangers.

After the winning celebrations marked with flowing bottles of champagne, Rangers captain Nikita Payne was full of praise for her management, coaches and players who combined to ensure the back-to-back championships.

“After that drawn game, we made a big push towards this repeat with everyone combining to achieve what we hope will be the double this year.  Having lost Trinity (Gibson) in our defence for the entire season was a big blow. However, everyone stepped up really well and we brought up some juniors who made significant contributions. That speaks to the quality of our youth coming through,” Payne told Weekend Sport. (KB)
