BRA owed more than $1b

Taxpayers owe more than $1 billion to the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA). 

That figure was disclosed yesterday in a statement as BRA defended the activation of its tax notification system which has been alerting individuals about their outstanding tax returns.

Communications and public relations manager, Carolyn Williams-Gayle, explained why the system was introduced.

“The Barbados Revenue Authority acknowledges the recent concerns surrounding the activation of the tax notification system and we want to assure you that this initiative is designed to improve tax compliance and that essentially is and has been our primary goal.
