The agricultural sector has met the increased food demand of the International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup, Minister of Agriculture Indar Weir has reported.
He said there were no shortages, even in the poultry sector, which was initially thought to be a challenge.
“As a result of bird flu, we do not have a large amount of chicken wings coming into Barbados. So, the poultry industry is supplying most of the chickens. We do not anticipate any shortage of poultry going into the cricket World Cup. As it relates to dairy as well as crops, we should not have any shortages,” Weir said.
“Crop production on the ground is good and we have distributors who are also supplying us during this peak period of the World Cup. I see people complaining about the price of sweet potatoes, but the production is high and so too is the demand,” he added.
