Five months into his two-year tenure, Charles D. Lewis has resigned from his position as president of the Barbados Association of Creatives and Artistes (BACA).
In a press statement received yesterday, the association stated that former president Sean Carter, who was elected as vice-president at the annual general meeting in January, will assume the role.
The DAILY NATION understands a meeting will be held to elect a new vice-president, but no date has been given.
BACA said that “it is with a mix of regret and understanding” they were announcing the resignation, which was effective on May 31, and stated that it came after Lewis “recently returned from a leave of absence”. He cited “unforeseen developments and responsibilities” in the letter.
“The letter of resignation, dated May 17, marked the conclusion of Lewis’s leadership within the association. Despite the brevity of his term, Lewis made a noteworthy contribution to the organisational and structural integrity of BACA during his time in office,” BACA stated.
BACA said Carter, the first president of the association, “brings not only a wealth of experience” but he has
“an unwavering passion and commitment to our creative community”.
“His leadership promises continuity and innovation as we navigate this period of change.
“On behalf of the association, we the executive team of BACA extends warm appreciation to Lewis for his time with us as president. We wish Mr Lewis all the best in his future endeavours and trust that his journey ahead will be even more enriching and rewarding than his time spent with BACA.
“As we move forward, the Barbados Association of Creatives and Artistes remains committed to its mission to empower, develop, promote, represent and defend the interests of all creatives and performing artistes in Barbados,” the association said in the statement. (PR/GBM)
