A large tree has blocked access to sections of Lewis Gap and Westbury Road, St Michael.

Some residents in the area said they had complained many times for the tree, that it needed to be removed, as it was a danger to motorists and pedestrians.

The tree also brought down power lines, cutting off electricity to some households.

Resident Olga Husbands said she was home and heard a loud cracking noise.

“It was about minutes to 12 I heard the crack and when I looked out I saw the tree down. I have no electricity and I also informed Light and Power. Some work was done early this year on some of [the] trees with trimming the branches but the rotten ones were still left behind.”

Traffic had to use alternative routes because of the blockage.
