Barbadians are being called on to rally around the fishing industry and help restore the confidence of fishermen who lost much of their livelihood as a result of Hurricane Beryl.

Minister of the Environment and National Beautification, and the Green and Blue Economy Adrian Forde said the country needs to operate with a sense of unity and community.

“We are asking Barbadians to come together as one. I want to say that resilience must now be the buzzword in Barbados. There must be social resilience, and social resilience means that we must ensure that the NIS [National Insurance and Social Security Service] becomes an integral part of the discussion.

Insurance, whether home insurance or vessel insurance, is an integral part of the discussion,” he said. Forde was speaking yesterday at the Berinda Cox Fish Market in Oistins, Christ Church, where he was presented with a number of industrial garbage bags from the Packaging Centre.
