Wales showed their superiority over local clubs once again with an emphatic 5-1 thrashing of a spirited Deacons side in the final of the Champions Cup on Sunday night at the Wildey Turf.

Both teams started with verve and Deacons took the fight to the defending champions from kick-off, but Wales, whose appearance in finals are practically a surety, leaned on experience and slowly built their passing rhythm.

Goals by Andre Applewhaite (15th minute) and Shaquille Stewart  (38th) were followed by a second half double strike by Nadre Butcher (47th and 48th) before substitute Rashad Smith added a fifth in the 63rd minute. Shaquan Haynes (78th) got Deacons’ consolation goal.
