The Anglican Diocese of Barbados is still standing, but not standing still.

This was made clear today during a service in celebration of the bicentenary of the local diocese, held at the Wildey Gymnasium, as the congregation was entertained by the youth chorale and liturgical dancers.

One highlight was the performance of the song created for the event “We’re Still Standing” penned by Judy Bailey, a Barbadian living in Germany. This lively tune got the congregation moving alongside the dancers.

The sermon was delivered by Bishop of the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands Drexel Gomez who said the church, while it had a checkered past in some aspects, had been vital in championing progress and development and had to continue to be the moral centre of the world.

Among those in attendance were President The Most Honourable Sandra Mason, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, president of the Senate Reginald Farley, Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne, Roman Catholic Bishop of Bridgetown Neil Scantlebury, members of Cabinet and various visiting Bishops from Trinidad and Tobago, the Windward Islands, the North Eastern Caribbean, Aruba, Guyana and Suriname.
