Political scientist Peter Wickham yesterday weighed in on the recent resolution of the court battle within the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) stating the way was now paved for the party to mend fences.

He expressed optimism about the party’s future, highlighting the necessity of further internal discussions. On Tuesday, DLP member Ricardo Williams withdrew his court case against the interim leadership of the party.

Williams had filed a certificate of urgency requesting the DLP’s executive to restore party president Dr Ronnie Yearwood and general secretary Steve Blackett, both of whom were suspended pending investigations by the general council.

According to Wickham, Yearwood and political leader Ralph Thorne have clear roles within the party to end the internal wrangling.
