Flash Flooding possible during the afternoon

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a Flash-Flood Watch for the afternoon due to excessive rainfall expected throughout the day. This alert affects Christ Church, St. Michael, St. James, and surrounding areas.

There is a medium possibility of significant flooding which may result in soil erosion on bare or scarred land surfaces. Roads and fields may experience water settlements leading to isolated diversions. Increased water levels in existing water bodies, such as ponds, are anticipated.

Residents and visitors should remain vigilant as this alert could be elevated to red if conditions worsen.

Across southwestern districts, moderate to heavy showers could produce up to 50mm of rainfall during the afternoon. This is due to daytime heating and light winds allowing cloud development over the island. Rainfall intensities are expected to peak during the afternoon with conditions improving in the late evening.

This Flash-Flood Watch will be terminated at 6:00 p.m. today or sooner if conditions warrant. (BMS)
