Ricketts secures silver, Smith finishes seventh in triple jump final

In a season’s best performance Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts took the silver medal in the final of the women’s triple jump at the ongoing Paris Games.

Ricketts, on her second attempt, achieved a mark of 14.87m while teammate Ackelia Smith finished seventh as she achieved a championship best in a mark of 14.42m.

Dominica’s Thea Lafond, the sole competitor in the field to surpass the 15-metre mark, won her country’s first Olympic medal as she managed to leap a distance of 15.02m on her second attempt to secure the gold medal.
