Racing enthusiasts can expect a breathtaking finish in today’s 85th running of the Grade 1 – Barbados Derby over 2 000 metres around 7:50 p.m. at the historic Garrison Savannah.

That’s when the rapidly improving filly Dalicia’s Angel will know just how good she is as she tackles the crème de la crème of three-year-olds for the coveted Derby Trophy and purse of $110 750.

The Remel Lovell-trained filly which is the property of David Abraham will have hot apprentice Aaron Daniel in the irons and this duo will be going after a hat-trick of wins.

Dalicia’s Angel’s last two triumphs combined was by a whopping 15 lengths including a maiden victory over 1 800 metres. Invariably that success over that distance aligns her with race favourite Show Time which in workman-like fashion captured the second Jewel Of The Triple Crown and the Midsummer Creole Classic.

Daniel’s hunger for a Derby triumph will be second to none as he seeks to redeem himself having missed out on winning the Derby last year astride Social Media. (LY)
