Flash Flood Watch in effect for Barbados

The Barbados Meteorological Service (BMS) has issued a flash-flood watch for the island.

A trough system is currently impacting Barbados, resulting in heavy rainfall and an increased risk of flash flooding. While flooding is not guaranteed, residents are urged to remain vigilant as excessive rainfall within a short period of time can quickly lead to flash flooding.

Residents should be aware of possible flooding that may cause soil erosion, especially on bare or damaged land. Water pooling on roads and fields could lead to travel delays and isolated road diversions, particularly in and out of the city. The water levels of ponds and other water bodies may rise, and there is a risk of marginally invasive water accumulation on roads, fields, storm drains, and private properties.

The public is advised to follow the recommendations of the Department of Emergency Management (DEM). It is important to stay updated on the latest information by monitoring the BMS, DEM, and Government Information Service (GIS) websites, as well as their social media pages and local media networks.

This advisory will be updated at 6 p.m. or earlier if conditions improve.
