The Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a flash-flood watch for the island’s western and central districts due to excessive rainfall expected today.

This alert will remain active until 6 p.m.

A surface to low-level trough is affecting the island, bringing intermittent showers, some of which may be heavy. Rainfall is expected to accumulate between 25 to 50 mm (1 to 2 inches), with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated this afternoon, with improvements expected by tonight.

A flash-flood watch indicates the possibility of flooding due to heavy rainfall within a short period of time. Although it does not confirm that flooding will occur, conditions suggest it is possible.

The public is urged to follow updates from the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) and monitor information provided by the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS), DEM, and the Government Information Service (GIS) through their websites, social media, and local media outlets.(BMS)
