Last week, draughts wizard John “Jack” Francis was on a high after capturing the British Open a second time. Last night, he was back in Barbados, hurt and heart broken after having to abandon the tour of Germany for the World Three-Move Restriction Qualifying Tournament.

Francis told MIDWEEK SPORT online issues prevented him from making the direct flight from Manchester to Frankfurt.

“I was unable to book a flight to Frankfurt because the Lufthansa online form did not recognise my Barbadian phone number.

“The tablet number is not recognised for the online process to be sanctioned and because I do not have a cellphone which would be necessary for the online recognition is part of the problem,” he said.
