The Barbados Royals have announced the signing of 32-year-old left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican as a replacement for South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj. Warrican, who represents Barbados and has featured in 17 Test matches for the West Indies, joins the squad ahead of today’s crucial Qualifier 2 against the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Warrican, known for his slow left-arm orthodox bowling, has taken 54 wickets at the international level. His last appearance in the CPL was in 2015 when he played for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, taking two wickets in three matches.

Maharaj, who was in his debut CPL season, impressed with eight wickets in seven matches at an economy rate of 8.74. However, he will be unavailable for tonight’s match and the potential Final, should the Royals advance.
