Bajan wrestlers set for Puerto Rico

Two-time junior Pan Am bronze medallist Adrian Maynard is part of the four-member Barbados wrestling team scheduled to depart the island tomorrow to represent the country at the Sparta Cup Puerto Rico National Championship.

National coach Yaima Payne said this developmental tournament, which runs from Thursday to Saturday is part of preparations for the upcoming Pan Am Juniors scheduled for 2025 in Paraguay.

Also joining Under-23 national champion Maynard on the Barbados team are freestyle wrestlers Kodi Marshall in the Under-20 age group, Kwami Inniss in the Under-23, and Jessica Derrell as the lone female.

Speaking with NATION SPORT, Payne said she expected great results from all four competitors, who were busy training and preparing up to last Friday night at the home base of Central Barbados Wrestling in Rockley, Christ Church. (ML)
