Workers at Bico Ltd. are off the job for the second consecutive day.

The Barbados Workers Union  said it was unfortunate that after a work stoppage yesterday  and more than six (6) hours of discussions, BICO has not demonstrated any commitment to finding a resolution to bridge the gap with its workers, who have demonstrated patience and grace in their pursuit of fairness and justice for more than six years.

The meeting ended with the Company committing to revert to its principals before an updated position could be tabled by 12 p.m. today.. While the BWU awaits what it hopes would be a revised position that could advance movement toward an agreement, the workers will remain off the job.

Kamisha Benjamin, Deputy Director of Industrial Relations, at the Barbados Workers Union said: “Following another conciliation meeting with the Labour Department, in a series of meetings which began back in April this year, the Barbados Workers’ Union approached today’s meeting, which started at 4 p.m. under the chairmanship of the Chief Labour Officer in good faith and with optimism that progress would be made.  However, it is unfortunate that after a work stoppage today and more than six (6) hours of discussions, the Company has not demonstrated any commitment to finding a resolution to bridge the gap with its workers, who have demonstrated patience and grace in their pursuit of fairness and justice for more than six years.
