Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel fell ill while partying at a popular nightclub in Kingston on Monday night.

Sources close to the deejay have since told Observer Online that the Comet deejay is “doing fine” after the incident.

Videos of the deejay being assisted out of the club have been circulating on social media, raising further concerns about the entertainer’s health especially since he has been diagnosed with Graves’ disease. In the footage, the club’s disc jock could be heard asking patrons on the upper deck, where the artiste was located, to give him space. Kartel was later seen sitting on the rails as patrons around him used rags and other items to ‘fan’ him.

In May 2023 it was disclosed that the then incarcerated deejay had been battling Graves’ disease and other health issues including heart conditions.

Graves’ disease is defined as an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones, otherwise known as hyperthyroidism.

Symptoms of the autoimmune disease include bulging eyes, gritty sensation in the eyes, pressure or pain in the eyes, puffy or retracted eyelids, enlargement of the thyroid gland, frequent bowel movements, erectile dysfunction, among others.

Graves’ disease can become fatal when it is left untreated. (Jamaica Gleaner)
