Flash Flood Watch in effect for Barbados

A flash flood watch has been issued.

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) reports that unstable conditions are affecting the island and, along with occasional cloudiness and possible isolated thunderstorms, could generate 1 to 2 inches of rainfall in moderate to heavy showers.

Potential impacts include soil erosion on exposed land, water accumulation on roads and fields that could cause delays or diversions in and out of the city, and a rise in water levels in ponds and canals. Invasive water on roads, fields, storm drains, and properties may also occur.

A flash flood watch indicates that heavy or excessive rainfall within a short period of time could lead to flash flooding in the area. While flooding is not guaranteed, it remains a possibility, and the public should remain vigilant.

The watch was issued at 1:30 PM and will be updated or terminated by 6:00 PM today or sooner if conditions warrant.
