Barbadians will celebrate 58 years of Independence and three years as a Republic with the staging of the Independence Ceremonial Parade and March, which starts at 8 a.m. today at Kensington Oval.

Motorists are therefore reminded that from the junction of Lakes Folly and Redman Drive to President Kennedy Drive and Holborn Circle in St Michael will be a one-way street with traffic flowing in the direction of the Mighty Grynner Highway.

In addition, from Westbury Road to the Holborn Circle junction in St Michael will be closed to all vehicular traffic, except for public service vehicles, from 6 a.m. Drivers will be allowed to make drop-offs and pick-ups of passengers only on Fontabelle Road, Westbury Road, President Kennedy Drive, Cheapside Road, Redman Drive, Prescod Boulevard, the road leading to Hanschell Inniss Limited, Pickwick Gap, University Row, Mighty Grynner Highway and Kensington New Road.

All motorists, pedestrians and riders or leaders of animals using any of these roads should exercise caution and comply with any order given by a member of the Barbados Police Service in uniform.

Any person who fails to comply with any order given by the police is guilty of an offence and is liable on a summary conviction to a fine of $500 or imprisonment for a term of three months or both.

However, these rules do not apply to vehicles used by emergency personnel such as the Barbados Police Service, the Barbados Defence Force and the Barbados Fire Service. (PR)
