Nearly three months on remand, the duo of Norman Ricardo Worrell and Chad Atherley charged with several drug offences which allegedly took place on September 23 at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA), have been granted bail.

Magistrate Douglas Frederick released Worrell and Atherley on $100 000 bail each on Monday, when they reappeared in the District “B” Magistrate’s Court at the Eric Holder Municipal Complex at Horse Hill, St Joseph. However, both were ordered to surrender their passports and report to a police station once per week.
Worrell, of 1st Avenue, Jackson, St Michael, a security guard at GAIA, is charged with the indictable offences of aiding Atherley, a mechanic at the airport, in the unlawful possession of cocaine, aiding him in possessing the drug with intent to supply it, and trafficking it, and that he also complied with and agreed to accept $1 000 from Atherley as an inducement to pass through the security checkpoint at the airport without being screened, all on September 23.
Atherley, of Union Road, St Philip, was charged in connection with 17. 60 kilogrammes of cocaine,
with an estimated street value of $880 000, in that he had possession of it, intended to supply it, and trafficked the drugs on September 23, while he was at the airport.
The prosecutor, Station Sergeant Vernon Waithe, did not renew his objections to either party being granted bail on Monday.
Accused Worrell is now being represented by King’s Counsel Michael Lashley, while Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens is defence counsel for Atherley.
The accused men return to court on March 10. (SD)
