The Salvation Army continued to spread cheer and goodwill through its annual Christmas luncheon, feeding up to 400 people yesterday.
From noon, the team of volunteers worked tirelessly to feed those stepping through the doors of the Salvation Army headquarters on Reed Street, The City.
The initiative was supported by the Barbados Christian Council, the Cave Shepherd Community Fund (CSCF) and its Group of Volunteers who counted among the 35 helping hands.
Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army Major Robert Pyle praised the organisations and volunteers for their part in preparing the meals.
“In fulfilling our mission, we recognise that we could not do this alone. We need people, we need organisations, we need corporations to come alongside us and partner with us to enable us to fulfil our mission,” he said.
Faithful partner
The CSCF has been a long-standing partner and supporter of the Salvation Army, dating back to 2006 where the company donated $100 000.
That contribution facilitated the development and construction of the kitchen where yesterday’s meals were prepared and also served.
Chief executive officer of Cave Shepherd Roger Cave pledged their continued support to the Salvation Army.
“We are so heartened to know that the space continues to be a hub of care in preparing and sharing meals with those who most deserve them throughout the years. To you all here who will be enjoying this meal, this is more than a luncheon. It’s a celebration of togetherness and we’re so glad to share it with you.
