COMPLANT, the company engaged to execute the Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Programme on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Works, will on Monday demolish Bruce Vale Bridge in St Andrew.
Haigh Communications, in a release yesterday, stated that the bridge, which has been closed to vehicular traffic since 2021, will be reconstructed following the demolition. It is expected to be completed in ten months, weather permitting.
As a result, pedestrians will no longer be able to cross over the bridge and vehicular traffic will remain restricted.
Bus services, emergency and essential services will continue to access both sides of the bridge as usual.
Drivers of heavy-duty vehicles are reminded that Bruce Vale Link Road in St. Andrew has a two-ton weight restriction. Therefore, vehicles of this weight or carrying load which meets or exceeds two tons are not allowed to drive on this road.
Bruce Vale Link Road was opened as a temporary by-pass road in June 2024, following the closure of Bruce Vale Bridge and subsequent construction at the site. Signage is in place at both entrances of the road. The signs each display a black truck with the text 2T and enclosed by a red circle, along with the text, Speed Limit 20 km/h.
The Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) urges heavy-duty drivers to observe the weight limit restrictions, and other motorists to follow the speed limit on Bruce Vale Road for their safety and others. (PR/MTW/BA)
