The following is a statement from The Prime Minister’s Office on the passing of former Senator and Government Minister Arni Walters.

It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of former Senator and Government Minister Arni Walters.

Walters worked in industrial relations and human resources for several years, and served his country at a high level as a Senator, a Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, where he had responsibility for Employment, Labour Relations, and The Social Partnership and later, a Minister of State responsible for Labour and Immigration.

Indeed his contributions will never be forgotten. And in keeping with precedent, as a former Member of Parliament, Senator Walters will be accorded an Official Funeral.

On behalf of the Government and people of Barbados, I extend heartfelt condolences to his widow, Anita, his children Ian, Denise and Catherine, his siblings Kenneth, Diane and June and the many friends and colleagues who undoubtedly will mourn his passing.

May he truly rest in peace.
