Read House (Yellow) have done it three times on the trot after retaining their title at The Alleyne School’s Inter-House Sports Finals under floodlight last night at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.
The champions blew away the competition with 1 116 points. Haynes House (Red) were second with 975 points, Alleyne House (Blue) third with 727 points and Cumberbatch House were fourth with 712.50 points.
This edition of the school sports was commemorative as it is celebrating 240 years as an institution.
As a result, it was decided by principal Stephen Proverbs after a memorandum of sorts was conducted among the students that sports day would be held from 3 p.m. going into the night.
CARIFTA bronze medallist in the 100 metres, Aniya Nurse, of Haynes House dominated the Under-20 Girls’ division with a blistering time of 11.77 seconds in the 100 metres to take gold along with another stellar performance in the 200 metres in a time of 23.97 seconds.
Nurse copped her third gold in the 400 metres with a time of 56.04 seconds as she prepares for another season at the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletics Championships (BSSAC).
Azari Edey of Read House was a powerhouse in the Under-17 Boys’ division with unmatched performances
in the 100 metres, clocking in 11.20 seconds, the 200 metres (23.64) and the 400 metres (54.58).
In the Under-13 Boys’ division, Natarie Lavine, of Haynes House, made his mark in what will surely be his BSSAC debut with scintillating performances across the sprints. He won the 100 metres in 13.8 seconds, the 200 metres in 27.77 seconds, and the 400 metres in one minute 1.28 seconds making him one to watch in the future.
Another notable performer was Jazaria Hinds of Read House in the Under-15 Girls’ division with silver in the 100 metres in 15.06 seconds and gold in the 200 in a time of 31.70 seconds. (Dwayne Gibbs)
