Even though she suffered a great tragedy after losing her home to a fire on Tuesday, Katrina Medford still remains thankful as she has received overwhelming support from members of the public.
Since making her appeal to the public for assistance, people from near and far have reached out to Medford to donate food items, clothes, school supplies and anything else she required.
Member of Parliament for the area, Toni Moore, also sent assistants with donations to the family on the day the fire occurred.
A grateful Medford said it was heart-warming to see the outpouring of support from the public and she thanked all those who are still donating and reaching out. Her children expressed the same sentiments.
“We want to thank everyone that is looking out and donating stuff and are grateful and appreciative for all the help,” she told the Saturday Sun.
The 34-year-old wife and mother of four said she was still open to receiving donations and was in the process of organising a savings account to receive monetary donations. Medford, who resided in Ashbury, St George, lost her home and all she had to a fire at around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Medford, the sole provider of her home as her husband is incarcerated, has relocated to her grandfather’s home in Weston, St James, with her children, ages six, 11, 13 and 17. She is still waiting to receive an update from Government about accommodations for herself and her family.
Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey released a statement in which he assured that efforts were under way to find accommodations for the family of five for the next three months.
However, he explained that there was some difficulty because “the usual emergency housing facilities were full and other accommodations proved difficult due to the number of tourists on island”. (AJ)
