The Barbados Youth Development Council (BYDC) has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy in Silver Hill, Christ Church, on March 25, 2025.

In a statement, the BYDC extended condolences to the young victim’s family, friends, and community, describing the incident as a heartbreaking loss and a tragic reminder of the violence affecting the nation’s youth.

“A child’s life should never be cut short in this way,” the statement read. “We condemn this act in the strongest possible terms and call for justice to be served swiftly.”

The youth organization also emphasized the need for urgent action from all stakeholders, including government agencies, law enforcement, civil society, and community leaders, to tackle the root causes of crime and ensure safer environments for young people.

As investigations continue, the BYDC urged anyone with information to cooperate with the authorities, stating that silence only fuels the cycle of violence.

“As we mourn, let us also be moved to action. Our young people deserve better. Our communities deserve better. Barbados deserves better.” (PR)
