Operations at Preconco Ltd at Lears Road, Jackmans, St Michael, are still on pause after workers walked off the job on Tuesday dissatisfied over several long-standing grievances.

Around 9 a.m. yesterday, some workers were seen in chairs and others on the ground under umbrellas.

A meeting between the parties was scheduled for 10 a.m. but no details on its outcome were available up to press time.

Meanwhile, a statement from Preconco was issued yesterday describing the claims against the company as “blatantly false, potentially defamatory, misleading and deeply damaging to the reputation of the business, employees and stakeholders”.

It added that the company upheld the highest standards of health and safety in all aspects of its operations.

Strict industry regulations

“We adhere to strict industry regulations, regularly undergo third-party audits and consistently meet or exceeded all local, national and international 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardise and

sustain) standards, along with health and safety standards. Any suggestion to the contrary is not only false but also misrepresents the dedication of our hard-working team.”

Preconco said information provided by deputy general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union Dwaine Paul was never brought to the attention of the company and did not form part of the ongoing discussions and negotiations between the parties.

General manager Joshua Read stated: “There were protocols governing the conduct and utterances of all parties involved and the company affirmed its commitment to said protocols and procedures and will take the appropriate actions as needed.”
