A man who “brandished a knife” at the Grantley Adams International Airport Inc. (GAIA) was taken into police custody earlier today.

A statement from the Airport said around 11 a.m., a 29-year-old man “aggressively demanded to speak with an airline manager” and security officers were quickly summoned to the scene.

“Demonstrating exemplary professionalism, the security officers successfully de-escalated the situation while keeping the disturbance away from passengers and staff. Although the officers sustained minor injuries during the intervention, they efficiently subdued the individual, secured the weapon, and placed him in handcuffs,” the statement said.

Officials still do not know if the man was a passenger.

Meanwhile, Airport operations continued without delays or interruptions and no passengers or airline staff were harmed.

Police investigations are continuing. (PR/SAT)
