Wanted man charged with murder

A man who was the subject of a wanted notice appeared in court yesterday, charged with several offences, including one of the earliest murders of 2025.

Rakeem Shaquille Alleyne, 29 years of #7 Shepton Lane, The Pine, St, Michael, was charged with the murder of Vere Hoyte who was shot and killed on January 9 at Checker Hall, St Lucy.

Hoyte was sitting next to a shed at the time when, according to the police report, three men in a car opened fire on him. It was the second murder for 2025.

Alleyne was also charged with six cases of endangering life, four of serious bodily hard and two involving use of firearm, as well as possession of 36 rounds of ammunition and criminal damage.

These offences were committed on January 6 and 9 and March 31 in South District, St George, The Pine and Nelson Street, St Michael and Checker Hall.

Alleyne appeared before Magistrate Bernadette John in the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court #2 yesterday and was not required to plead to the charges. He was remanded to The Barbados Prison Service (Dodds) until May 8.  The matters for District ‘B’ were transferred until April 17 and those for Holetown until April 15. (PR/SAT)
