New guard rails will be installed along two bridges on Highway 2A, St Peter, as the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) seeks to improve bridge safety across the island.

Coles Engineering, on behalf of MTW, will install guard rails on the Mile and Quarter Bridge on Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 16, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. As a result, the northbound lane on that section of highway will be closed on Thursday, while on Friday, the southbound lane will be closed.

Work will be done on the Whitehall Bridge on Highway 2A starting Monday, May 19, and will continue on Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 21. The northbound lane will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 19, while on Tuesday, May 20, the northbound lane will be closed from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the southbound lane from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. On Wednesday, May 21, only the southbound lane will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Motorists are urged to slow down and be cautious when approaching and traversing the work sites. Persons are also advised to follow the directions of the traffic wardens and the signs posted and to expect some delays.

MTW and Coles Engineering apologise for the inconvenience and thank businesses, residents and motorists for their understanding and cooperation. (PR/MTW)
