Constituents of St James North, in and around the community of Rock Dundo, made the early morning trek to cast their votes today.
Several residents chose the early time to vote in the St James North by-election, placing their X at the Gordon Greenidge Primary School.
Election officials said lines were heaviest just after polling stations opened at 6 a.m., which is the norm.
Gordon Greenidge Primary houses the SA1 and SA2 boxes, two of the largest in the constituency and will be the counting site after the polls close at 6 p.m.
The numbers dropped slightly just after 8 a.m. with the average people in line ranging between seven to ten voters.
But those numbers increased significantly around 9 a.m. when a second surge of voters came through the school gates.

One woman who voted exclaimed she had not done so for over ten years, but had decided to place her X early this morning.
Today’s by-election is being contested by Barbados Labour Party first-timer Chad Blackman, rookie Felicia Dujon for the Democratic Labour Party, founder of the Community Empowerment Party, Steffanie Williams; and Alex Mitchell of the Bajan Free Party.
Throughout the morning, small minivans could be seen entering the compound of the school to drop off voters, as long lines developed again just after 9 a.m. (BA)
