A small craft advisory is in effect for Barbados as windy conditions in open water within the island’s marine space are forecast Friday.

The Barbados Meteorological Services says small craft operators should be prepared for the possibility of choppy conditions which can be hazardous to some vessels.

Strong surface winds peaking near 25 knots (45km/h) along with higher gusts near showers are forecast to affect Barbados’ marine space. Sea conditions are forecast to be moderate in open water with easterly swells ranging from 2.0 to 2.5 meters (7 to 8ft) during the same period.

A small-craft advisory, in this case, is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots (35 to 45km/h) are forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours. It was issued at noon Friday and will be updated at 6 p.m. Saturday, or sooner if conditions warrant. (PR/SAT)
