Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley today welcomed the newest Member of Parliament into the Lower House.

Mottley paid a brief tribute to Chad Blackman after the former diplomat made his first trek up the stairs of the House of Assembly to represent the constituency of St James North, having easily succeeded at the polls in a by-election held last Wednesday.

In welcoming Blackman to the chamber as an MP, the Prime Minister said she was expecting big things from the 42-year-old first-timer.

Blackman’s arrival into the chamber was met with steady table-thumping from his Barbados Labour Party colleagues.

He also received a special welcome by Speaker of the House, Arthur Holder, before taking his seat opposite the Prime Minister, and next to Davidson Ishmael, the MP for St Michael North.

Also welcoming Blackman today, was Opposition Leader, Ralph Thorne who reminded Blackman that though many more voted for him in the by-election than not for him, there were still many who did not vote at all.
