Stuart Maloney and Kristian Yearwood are eyeing their own piece of BCIC Rally Barbados history with back-to-back titles.

The pair made a strong bid for a successful defence of their crown as they are the leaders after day two of the 22-stage event, which began on Friday night at Bushy Park race circuit in St Philip.

The second day of action delivered on all the promises. There were spills, thrills, and heartache for many crews throughout that day.

Adam Mallalieu started the day in the lead after brilliant driving on the two Bushy Park Super Specials but was soon overtaken by more experienced drivers as the day progressed.

Stuart was quick to take the lead on stage four, the first Padmore to Golden Grove test, and never let go. Stuart was consistently near the summit of the time sheets and as a result, he led the action at the end of the day with a total elapsed time of 38:36.2 minutes.

Jamaica’s Kyle Gregg and Kriegg Yearwood are nipping at Stuart’s rear wheels in second in the Ford Fiesta with a time of 38:51.6 minutes. Gregg’s compatriots Jeffrey Panton and Michael Fennell Jnr are in third and ready to pounce on any mistakes (39:00.9).

Stuart’s brother Mark Maloney and co-driver Justin Maloney are in fourth place with a time of 39:01.8 minutes after an exciting day.

Finishing up the top five is two-time European champion Simon

Jean-Joseph and his long-standing co-driver Patrick Pivato. The pair have taken the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car and danced it to a total elapsed time of 39:08.4 minutes.

Two-time Rally Barbados winning crew, Dane Skeete and Tyker Mayhew are sixth after having a few issues with the engine throughout the rally, and they have a total time of 39:12.1 minutes.

The team of Josh Read and Mark Jordan made it three Fords in the top seven as the pair sits in seventh with a time of 39:12.3 minutes.

Suleman Esuf and Asif Suleman have been a surprise package these past two weekends, and their speed and hard work have led them to eighth overall with a total elapsed time of 39:23.1 minutes.

Rob Swann and Tom Woodburn, in the Skoda Fabia, are ninth on39:32.8 minutes while tenth are Adam Mallalieu and Steve McNulty (39:41.1 minutes). (SW)
