The stellar international cricket career of Kemar Roach could be at an end after he was omitted from the West Indies Test squad to face Australia, starting on June 25.
Roach failed to secure a spot in the 16-member group – named to contest the three Test matches at Kensington Oval in Barbados, June 25-29; the Grenada National Stadium, July 3-7; and a day/night encounter at Sabina Park in Jamaica, July 12-16.
The selectors made a bold move to give a first-time call-up to Johann Layne, the 21-year-old beanpole fast bowling all-rounder from Barbados who plays at the regional level for the West Indies Academy.
He makes the international squad without ever playing a first-class match for his country. A product of The Lodge School, he has an impressive first-class record of 64 wickets in 18 matches with four five-wicket hauls.
The panel also named two other first-timers in top-order batsmen Brandon King and Kevlon Anderson. (PS)
