The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a Small Craft Advisory for Barbados.

The advisory comes as a result of the dominant Atlantic high-pressure system generating brisk, sustained winds up to 25 knots (45 km/h). These winds are expected to stir up large swells that may pose dangers to small vessels.

According to the BMS, “Large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels. The operation of smaller vessels can be difficult at times due to large swells. Possible loss of life or injury”.

Marine users are strongly advised to exercise caution and stay informed by monitoring updates from the BMS, the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), the Government Information Service (GIS), and local media outlets.

The advisory will remain in effect until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, unless conditions improve sooner. (BMS)
